Did you know...

It has been a while since I shared a "Laugh at Myself Moment."

Did you know that if you bake a potato too long, it will explode? I called my husband and asked him that question last week and he about bust his gut laughing.

"Didn't you poke holes in them before you baked them?" he asked.

All I could think was, I wasn't cooking them in the microwave! I have baked potatoes 2-3 times a week for the past 3 years without an incident. Until last week. See what happens when you're on the phone and forget to set the timer when you pop something back in the oven for another couple of minutes?! I hung up the phone and heard the noise.

It was the most I have chuckled at myself for some time. I hope it added a giggle to your day.

Thanks for stopping by!
Renee

A potatoe explosion, hahaha, that would make me laugh as well. I hope you could still eat them.

HaHa! Too funny. I had a moment a few days ago when I tried my best to open a jar of pickles. It took 2-3 minutes to figure out that the cellophane seal was still on the jar lid. I felt so silly.

That is too funny Renee! I have exploded things in the microwave but I have never done this in the conventional oven! I always cut a cross in the top of my jacket potatoes though! Christine x

How funny! I remember when my mother and father moved to LA in the early 80s. She'd never had a microwave before and fixed baked potatoes for dinner...just like in the oven....on high power for 45-60 minutes. They came out like bricks. She called me in a panic....she knew I loved using my microwave to make them....we both had a good laugh. She and Dad went out for dinner that night 😀

Hi Renee
Nope, I didn't know that!! I usually use a bake sheet, lay a piece of foil down, wet the potatoes and season the skins with spray Parkay and spices, roll them all up together in the foil and bake and NEVER time...it just works and Terry who loves the skins that I hate is happy. I never knew potatoes would explode in the OVEN!!

Have a great weekend
xx, Carol

I always poke holes in mine whether it's the oven or microwave :)

Imagine if they'd all exploded! It would have given you quite a fright I imagine! ALways nice to have a laugh at oneself :-)

How funny! I poke holes when I bake them in the oven, but not in the microwave! When I microwave, I either wrap in plastic wrap or put the dish cover over them, and the steam helps keep them nicely moist as they bake. But I still never had one pop open. The others didn't burst. Obviously, that was a faulty potato! =)

So funny! My boys are always asking o explode something in the microwave. As long as you clean it up is my reply...No explosions so far.

Beth, that is funny!

Oh my, I had that happen years ago so now I always wrap them in foil. I just do not want to have to clean the oven again.

Can't say as I've managed to explode potatoes (yet), but I have managed to spew pop all over the kitchen ceiling on various occasions and have also had popcorn explode all over the kitchen floor when I've tried to take it out too soon. Oh yes....and a word to the wise....don't try to microwave cranberries...just sayin'

So funny Renee!
Oh Mary Anne, you are funny too! Well done Beth, that's the way to sort them out!
I had a friend whose potatoes exploded in her microwave - that's not so bad, easier to clean, but since then I've always pierced our potatoes all over with a fork - no explosions here!

Diane, wrapping them in foil would be a clever solution!
