Basic Crazy Quilt Class Bare Block

Kathy Shaw at Shawkl Designs generously offers crazy quilting classes for free. All you have to do is purchase the supplies, read the information and follow her amazing directions.

Note: There is a button on her sidebar for students that wish to make donation to help with the software expenses she incurs to provide the classes.

If you have taken the beginner's class, registration for the next intermediate class will open on February 26th.

The next beginner's class will open for registration on May 2nd.

The beginner's class is a prerequisite for anyone wishing to take the intermediate classes - regardless of the stitcher's skill level. I really want to learn a few things offered to intermediate-level students, so I am taking the beginning class.

This is my bare block. (It is hard to tell from the photo, but there are 5 different printed white fabrics on this block.)

Creating the beautiful block Kathy teaches her beginning students should be a fun way to try out my new Q-snap frame, too. (I have heard such good things about them.)

Now, I am going to hop on over and see the Day 8 We Support You projects on the following blogs. I just love all of the ways support is being given through this blog hop hosted by Madame Samm at Sew We Quilt and wonderfully cheered on by Pat at Life in the Scrapatch.

A Zendoodle and We Support You Day 7

My First Zendoodle
I feel a bit like a small school girl, thinking, "Look what I did!"

Not that it is amazing or free of mistakes, but I am quite pleased with the way my first zendoodle turned out.

(I learned these fun designs at tanglepatterns.com.)

I know, I know... the last thing I need is another way to spend my free time. However, I have been intrigued with zentangles since last year when my on-line friend Annet at Fat-quarter shared one she sketched for a weekly challenge.

The really fun part about this budding hobby is that my 15-year-old wants to learn how to make them too!

On Pinterest, I began searching zentangles and learned there were actually rules for these amazing doodles with classes and certified instructors. One rule is that they are not meant to look like anything. Of course, the ones I was drawn to (punny right?) were in shapes of hearts, animals, trees, landscapes, etc. I learned these are actually zendoodles.

Earlier this week, I went shopping on Amazon.com to buy some Have A Latte fabric for the upcoming blog hop at Sew We Quilt with the gift card my dad sent me for Christmas.

While I was there, I looked at sketch books and zentangle pens, and purchased this 10" x 11.25" Artisan Color My World Spiral Bound Sketchbook by Lisa Kaus and a set of 6 Micron pens ranging in size from 0.20 mm to 0.50 mm. (Please note: I am not affiliated with any of these products, but if you access Amazon.com through my blog to make a purchase, I do earn a small credit.)

Today is Day 7 of the We Support You Blog Hop at Sew We Quilt. Madame Samm generously shared her bra pattern with the participants and Pat cheered us on.

I do hope you will join me and hop on over to see what lovely projects are being shared on these blogs today.

WIP Wednesday 02/04/2015 and We Support You Blog Hop Day 5

If you are here for my Grow Your Blog Party post, please CLICK HERE.

Work In Progress (WIP) Wednesday is here again!

I missed the past two weeks, as I was busy working on a quilt, a handbag and a coin purse for the We Support You Blog Hop over at Sew We Quilt. These were gifts for a wonderful person in my life battling breast cancer. (If you missed it and are curious, you may see that post HERE.) Pat, from Life in the Scrapatch, was such an amazing cheerleader for this hop.

To meet my goal of at least 100 x-stitches per week, I needed 300 stitches added to my Heaven and Earth Designs (HAED) Freebie Santa and the Mouse Ornament, and I believe I just managed to reach that goal last night.

Above is a photo of how it looked on January 14th. I filled in the section to the right of Santa's hat. and began on his forehead.

Last year, I began adding my (incredibly long) lists of short- and long-term goals to my WIP posts. This year, I am going borrow a clever idea from the blog What about Rheema and start a page listing projects I need to finish. As each project is finished, I will cross it off and move it to the 2015 finishes page.

Today is Day 5 of the We Support You Blog Hop. I do hope you will hop on over to show your support to these wonderful ladies!
