Monday Stitchery Link Party #8

This week, I am happy to say I finally completed my block from Kathy Shaw's free Basic Crazy Quilt Course (BCQC).

This was such a great class! Kathy gave great instructions for completing each of the seams and gave great suggestions and guidelines for the motifs. One of my favorite things about this course (aside from all I learned) is seeing how similar, yet how unique each student's completed block turned out.

Above is a close up from the top of the block. (Click on any photo for a larger image.)

I just love the way this seam turned out!

And this silk ribbon butterfly was a fun motif to learn how to stitch.

The spider motif was my choice. Traditionally, spiders were added to crazy quilts because they were believed to bring the quilter good luck.

This butterfly is another addition I added on my own. If you click on the photo above it will enlarge and you may be able to see the heart stitched into the butterfly's flight path.

The elements in the photo above were all taught in the class.

Above is a close up of the center of the block. The iris and roses were both new to me. (I need more practice on these roses!)

Here is a close up of the bottom of the block.

If you have any interest in learning how to crazy quilt (or just want to learn some basic silk ribbon embroidery), I highly recommend taking the BCQC offered by Kathy at Shawkl.com. More details may be found here.

The next Basic Crazy Quilt Course registration will be open June 27th - June 29th. As for me... I am hoping to sign up for the Intermediate Crazy Quilt Course 101 (ICQC-101) in September. (The class is available in July too, but my schedule is nuts then.)

Thank you so much for stopping by! I do hope you will hop over to Super Mom - No Cape and see what the other stitchers linking up have been busy creating. And if you have hand stitched something, I encourage you to join in the fun.

  4. Oh I so want to take this course! I just need to get some more things checked off the WIP/UFO list so I have the time.

Your block is so beautiful. There is just so much to see in each photo. I love the spider and the butterfly and dragonfly. That little heart in the flight path is such fun!

I have a question... do you use a special kind of hoop for crazy quilting? I'm just using my small round hoop and I noticed that it kind of smooshed the palestrina stitches that I used to make the coral on my underwater scene. I ended up having to fluff them back up again when I moved the hoop to the next section.

Thanks for linking up again to this week's Stitchery Link Party and for encouraging others to come join in the fun. Aloha hugs!

  8. Oh my goodness, your stitching is absolutely gorgeous. I would love to learn how to do this but I am not sure I would have the patience. That is an heirloom piece for sure.
