TAST 10/21/2014

This week I finished two TAST (Take A Stitch Tuesday) Stitches.

TAST #101: Triangular Buttonhole Stitch:

This seam was created using a single strand of blue size 8 perle cotton.  I wanted to created a seam that appeared to look like water, and this looked like tiny little waves to me.  It was a relatively easy, quick stitch and I really enjoyed working with it!

TAST #134: Fern Stitch:

I used green size 8 perle cotton to stem stitch along the seam.  Then I added three curvy fern stitch "stems" along this "grassy" line.  Straight stitches in a variegated pink size 8 perle cotton created flowers at the top of each stem.

This stitch was incredibly easy and fun.  I have no doubt it will be used again.

      Thank you! I wanted to use it with a bit of a curve. I had a different idea when I began, but as soon as I completed the first section, it screamed, "Flower stem!" ;)

      It was so easy (with the linen - I could count the spaces to keep it even.) It is definitely a fun one!

    Love the little waves. The stitch is perfect for them. It's amazing how often fingers direct the outcome rather than our intended ideas. Love the flowers and stems. Your stitches are all so neat.

    I never saw the Triangular Buttonhole Stitch as a wave until you pointed it out - it's perfect! So are the flower stems made up of Fern Stitch.

      I did not see this stitch that way either, to be honest. (I actually skipped it because I could not think of a good way to incorporate it into any of my projects...) I was a stumped and could not think of a water idea for the seam beneath the elephant, so I began browsing back through the TAST posts on pintangle.com. That time, this stitch screamed, "Waves!"

    Your fern stitch flowers and stem stitch grass are wonderful! I also like the pink chain type stitch above it!

      Thank you! These were fun to stitch! The stitch above is TAST stitch #130, the double lock stitch, from pintangle.com. I used black perle cotton for the straight stitches and pink perle cotton for the lacing. It took me a bit to really catch on to that one, but once I was in a groove, it was easy and fun!

    beautifully done stitches.. the triangular buttonhole stitch does look like waves.. the fern stitch with flowers looks lovely!
