HAED Twilight Duel Progress Update #1 September 2015

On August 30th, 2015, I began working on the Heaven and Earth Designs Twilight Duel cross-stitch chart based upon artwork by Ruth Thompson

This is a chart my son would like me to stitch for him. There is a photo on the right side-bar. I warned him that a project this large might take me about 5 years and he was fine with that time-line. The adventure has begun! (If he had an iPhone, I would be sorely tempted to get him a Twilight Duel phone case...)

There are 147,600 stitches in this chart. So, I need to complete a minimum of 568 stitches a week to finish on schedule. I am aiming for 700 stitches a week (or 100 stitches a day), in hopes of finishing early.

August 30th - September 13th, I completed 1,422 stitches.

Page 1 is now 18% complete. The entire chart is 0.96% complete. (I am trying not to think about the fact that this is less than 1% finished, so I do not intimidate myself too much. This is a HUGE project for me.)

My biggest concern with this chart was that I might get bored working on all of the blue background. Luckily, I discovered I enjoy seeing the shading of the sky come together.

I am linking up with Monday Stitchery Link Party #23 at Super Mom - No Cape! I do hope you will stop by to see what others have been up to this week. If you do any hand stitching, I hope you might link up, too!

My next progress update on this piece will be shared on October 12th, the 2nd Monday of next month. That is 28 days and hopefully 2,800 stitches away.

Thank you for stopping by!
Renee

Great start on a fantastic chart. Best of luck with stitching this piece.

I find that having some big swaths of one color makes the stitching actually go faster. I know that I should make a goal for my Baker Beach, but I am afraid of falling short so I just keep plugging away at whatever pace I feel like at the moment. Then again I have no deadline. That is quite an intricate piece. Good luck in keeping up that ambitious stitching pace. I look forward to watching it grow each week.

Renee, are you mad???, what a huge project but how smart of you to break it down into achievable lots. I admire your patience and cant wait to see how you go with it xxx

Well done Renee. That's a great start. There I am saying if I add 10 stitches a day I'll be encouraged to stitch more, but all I did yesterday was sort some thread out, and thread the needle. My problem is that I have a lot of small areas to be stitched with a lot of beginnings and endings. Maybe following your stitching will give me the encouragement to get on with mine!

This is one of those things that fall under the name 'labour of love' - I simply can't imagine stitching anything that large!

Great start Renee! Those blues are gorgeous. I am stitching one over one on 25 as I struggled with 2 over one. Your coverage looks better than mine though. I think we are all going to enjoy watching this one develop.

Barbara, I took a peek at your cross-stitch and it is adorable! In my opinion, any stitches added are progress. :)

You've made a great start on a very long term project. One of the great things about blogging about a project is that if you do get discouraged or intimidated, you can go back and see photos of just how far you've come.

Thanks so much for linking up again to this week's Stitchery Link Party and for encouraging others to come join. Aloha hugs!!
