WIP Wednesday 11/05/2014

Wednesday is here again, which means there are only 7 weeks until Christmas - so I need to either get started on my home made gift ideas or figure out a new plan. Gulp!

Last night, I made a bit more progress on my Winter/Christmas Wall Quilt (shown in the two photos above. Please note, you may click on any photo for a larger image.) The progress on this project is slow and steady.  I could probably push through and finish it before Christmas, but I would prefer to complete some home made Christmas gifts (possibly using CQJP 2014 blocks.)  So, we shall see...
I am SO excited to know that my blocks from the CQI Heart DYB Round Robin are on their way home!  Lisa shared pictures on her blog, Ivory Blush Roses.  If you would like to take a peek, just follow this link to her blog.  (I wonder if I can put these together before Valentine's day?!) Below is a picture of the blocks when I mailed them out.  I will share more details on the embellished blocks after they make their way home.
Over the weekend, I discovered Heaven and Earth Designs (HAED) had a 35% off Halloween Sale.  (I just checked, and the sale still appears to be going at the time of this post.) Let's just say, I spent WAY too much of my free time Sunday afternoon browsing through some of my favorite cross-stitch charts.  I finally had to have my boys help me choose between a few favorites.  They were shipped out on Monday, and should be here any day!  So, I am doubly motivated to finish the free chart of Santa and the Mouse that I have been working on.  (You may find the free charts available on the HAED site HERE.)  One of the charts I purchased will be the center piece for a quilt for my youngest son.  It is huge (32-pages), so I expect it to take me somewhere between 3 and 5 years to finish it.  My son is fine with that. I also chose 2 smaller charts I plan to incorporate into crazy quilts. (I am not affiliated with HAED.  I just think their charts are amazing!)

I encourage you to stop by at Pintangle.com to check out the progress others have made this week.  You may find this week's WIP Wednesday post HERE.  (If you are not familiar with WIP Wednesday, the details for this support group for stitchers is found HERE.)

Thank you for stopping by!
Renee

Last Week's List of Goals:

 Short-term:

  1. Complete the wall quilt I plan to create with all of my CQI Winter/Christmas blocks. Complete quilting so it is ready to add the back and bind. Progress seen above.
  2. Make a TAST post. Completed 2 stitches this week!
    TAST 43: Buttonhole Wheel Cups
    TAST 38: Drizzle Stitch
  3. Complete back for May CQJP 2014 block.
  4. Freebie Santa and the Mouse Ornament -  Heaven and Earth Designs chart by Michele Sayetta and artwork by Scott Gustafson. (I believe the ornament is a portion of the chart "Santa and the Mouse.") Complete 100 x-stitches by next week. I completed more than 300 x-stitches this week. I completed the cuff section on page 1 of the chart, filled in some of Santa's beard, and began on the sleeve. Page 1 is nearly complete!
  5. Embellish snowball for Nicki Lee. This is about half done.
  6. Piece and embellish a snowball for Lori by end of October. Finished and mailed!  I am waiting for Lori to receive it before I share, so it will be a surprise.  However, waiting is HARD, so here is a tiny sneak peek.  Shhh.... It's a secret!
Long-term:
  1. Make a purse with my April CQJP 2014 block.
  2. Make a purse with my May CQJP 2014 block.

  6. Piece August CQJP 2014 block.

I have to say I am impressed with your lists! and your projects of course but the lists and seeing them crossed off are the best! Waving with a big silly grin on my face

Thank you, Sharon! I do LOVE to start new projects. Seeing my list of all the things I need to do before I begin anything new helps keep me in check. Well.... mostly! I do allow myself to sneak a few gifts into the mix as I go. My next gift will also be a CQJP 2014 block, though - so I can cross another item off the list as I go. ;)

Wow - I peeked at just the freebie patterns available on Heaven and Earth Designs. They have so many beautiful ones! It was nice to see what your Santa project looks like overall.

I am impressed with your progress on the cross stitch. Do you listen to music or an audio book while you work?

Thank you! I love the way it looks with the snowflakes. Now, if I could be a little more excited about stitching more flakes - lol!

I should listen to music or an audio book! Recently, I have been listening to/watching Criminal Minds through Netflix instant view. I may pick up an audio book or two on my next trip to the library though. I was just thinking about how little reading I accomplish with all of my free time devoted to stitching.
